I think the issue beneath this resembles a bit the issue Twitch has been having with music’s copyright. They don’t want to sign a deal with platforms to ensure that copyright owners get paid and they just take it on the final user.

Of course I also fear this would be worse, as per your conclusions. Most people are already pretty bad at getting their information and if no serious press enters their filter bubble it will get worse.
