I’d add that the specific contents of some signs are explicitly provided by the law (i.e. the smoking sign). I enjoyed your explanation, with the Italian reader called to show its mastery in bureaucracy. However, I fear the legalese-spreading is to make sure the reader understands that a law prescribes it, because anything that doesn’t sound mandatory will be taken as a piece of advice.
